Glossary

Marketing terms, clearly explained.

So you never have to nod through an agency meeting without knowing what the terminology actually means.

Community Management

Community management means actively engaging with the people who interact with your brand online through comments, direct messages and reviews. It includes answering enquiries, moderating discussions and building genuine relationships with followers and customers. The aim is to turn anonymous reach into a loyal community.

Content Marketing

Content marketing is a strategy in which businesses create useful, relevant content to attract their target audience and turn them into customers over time. Instead of broadcasting advertising messages, it delivers genuine value through blog articles, videos and social media posts. The aim is to build trust that later leads to enquiries and revenue.

Conversion Rate

The conversion rate is the percentage of website visitors who complete a desired action, such as a purchase or an enquiry. Calculate it by dividing the number of conversions by the number of visitors and multiplying the result by 100. It is one of the most important metrics in online marketing.

Corporate Design

Corporate design is a business's consistent visual identity. It covers its logo, colours, typography and imagery, ensuring the brand is immediately recognisable at every touchpoint: on its website, business cards, company vehicles and every social media post. Corporate design is the visible part of corporate identity.

CTR (click-through rate)

CTR (click-through rate; German: Klickrate) is the percentage of users who click a search result or advert after seeing it. The formula is clicks divided by impressions, multiplied by 100. A high CTR indicates that your title or advert copy matches search intent and encourages users to click.

Customer Journey

The customer journey is the entire path a customer takes from their first encounter with a business to a purchase and beyond. It includes every touchpoint: a Google search, an Instagram reel, the website and a conversation in the shop. Understanding this journey allows you to engage customers deliberately at every stage instead of relying on chance.

Landing Page

A landing page is a standalone web page focused on exactly one goal: a specific visitor action such as an enquiry, sign-up or purchase. Visitors usually arrive through adverts, emails or search results. Unlike standard website pages, it avoids distractions and consistently guides visitors towards a single call to action.

Responsive web design

Responsive web design is a design approach in which a website's layout, images and navigation automatically adapt to the screen size of each device. A responsive website works equally well on a smartphone, tablet or desktop computer. It is implemented technically using flexible grids, scalable images and CSS media queries.
